JIMMY
WATSON
-
His mother, Marion, teases her son about his dreams to build a large robot ant with a
drawing of her son riding on the ant's back. Then it comes true.
Julia Roberts is a good friend and supporter of Jimmy Watson. She attends the local school in Hailsham with Jimmy and was a pupil at Herstmonceux Church of England Primary school.
She is no relation to the famous Hollywood actress, the star of the movie: 'Erin Brockovich.'
Julia fancies Jimmy. She loves it when his robot teams beat other roboteers. She knows he is a programming genius, and too shy to make more of it. She is also fond of Marion, who has virtually adopted her, as a daughter.
Julia is like a robot groupie, except she is devoted to Jimmy. But, she gets on well with other robot engineers, often picking up tips on hard and software, that she shares with Jimmy or Marion. She knows quite a bit about computers, although not a programmer herself, she is studying Information Technology and the history of computers. Beginning with Alan Turing, the English mathematician and computer scientist, and how he cracked the Enigma code during the Second World War.
She is worried there may be a World War Three, but her parents say there is nothing to worry about.
She is in awe of Jimmy's Dad, General Watson. Like Jimmy, she has no idea what he does in the Army. But she likes the idea that men like him are ready to defend the country.
Julia is a romantic. Her favourite film is Titanic. Her role model is Beatrix Potter, for her conservation work in the Lake District and perseverance as an artist and illustrator. Julia's favourite colours are pink and purple. Her bedroom is painted in various shades of these colours. Fortunately, Jimmy also likes pink and her taste in clothes.
JULIA ROBERTS - Julia trying Jimmy Watson's Magic Dinobot for size. She decided that Anthony would benefit from a saddle if riding the giant insect for any distance.
Julia lives just outside the village of Herstmonceux in Sussex. Her distant family were once into Trug making, many years ago. A tradition, pushed out of the village, to be displaced by over zealous property development, that she knows is causing potholes all along the A271, and are dangerous to drivers. But, she is powerless to do anything about.
She shares this view with Marion, who was a councillor for a while, just to learn more about local politics. Julia's other interests are law and literature. She loves a good historical drama film: Period dramas, longing after the days when life was more in tune with nature.
She hates plastic packaging that is killing marine mammals and toxifying fish. That issue and global warming want to make her protest, or become a politician.
Julia often defends Jimmy and does not like the class bully, Johnny Baxter (The Johnson), when he picks on Jimmy. Johnny fancies Julia, but has a roving eye and is not on her intellectual wavelength.
