Hannibal Harry Henderson, known to his pupils and students as Mr Henderson, is the science, physics master who recognises the astonishing determination of Jimmy Watson, in his quest to design and build a robot animatronic DinoBot.
At first, nearly all of his teachers thought Jimmy's notion to be rather more than just a little far-fetched. But as the lad had demonstrated a grasp of what was involved, to include a project costing that would have done their business school proud. Slowly, and one by one, Jimmy won his teachers over. Even they, began to think his aspirations might be possible.
Mr Henderson works closely with Mr Rippengall, the IT master, who cannot keep up with Jimmy's advanced programming. Indeed, Reginald, is learning from the young Watson, as much as his star pupil is gleaning from the robotics teacher.
In physics, Jimmy is learning about applied mathematics, and structural design. When Hannibal ask Jimmy why he chose the DinoBot kit as his starting point, Jimmy explained it was because of the amazing abilities of the ant as an insect. Being able to lift well over 20 times its own weight, and several hundred times its weight, in a living chain. Jimmy went on the tell Mr Henderson about the giant insects that lived in Antarctica. That inspired him to want to create a mechatronic that could perform useful tasks, in a world where humans are the dominant species. And robotics could be part of the puzzle for sustainable living, to include, space exploration.
Hannibal is a bit worried about Jimmy, though he seemed happy enough. He was grateful to his mother Marion for making contact, that mutually assured parent and teacher, that Jimmy was happy at school and at home. On that basis, the Hailsham Community College, was more than pleased to extend every facility to Jimmy.
Mr Henderson keeps his Christian name a bit of a secret, to avoid being made fun of, because of the fictional character Hannibal Lecter, the cannibal, in Silence of the Lambs.
