MI6 - HEAD OF SPECIAL OPERATIONS, BRITISH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE, LONDON
Sir Rodney Dunbar worked his way through the ranks, after Sandhurst officer training academy. His great grandfather saw service overseas against Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, in World War Two, inspiring him to enlist, as family tradition.
He is the head of MI6 advanced research projects, an arm of military intelligence that develops technology, in the war against terrorism and counter espionage. This included a foray with robotics for literally invincible soldiers, but that turned out to be a dead end - where the technology would mean decades of research on limited budgets - fighting stiff upper lipped traditionalist inflexibility. His counterparts at DARPA had cried off for similar reasons, having failed to make their infantry machine Big Dog, workable in the field.
More on point, was the Army's human soldier enhancement programme, borrowed from the US air force, to combat pilot fatigue. Partly inspired by the Jason Bourne films. Turning fiction into measurable results. More slowly than he'd have liked.
