OUTLINE:
Having
enjoyed a wicked Christmas in Herstmonceux, Jimmy's mum, Marion and dad,
Tim, decide to take a Scottish vacation to visit Marion's cousin, near Loch Ness. A road trip in her trusty
Volkswagen Kombi Camper
van. They set off just after Boxing Day, to arrive before New Year's Eve, for a reunion, having fitted winter tyres and installed a heater in the VW. They make it up the M1 to Edinburgh, and M90 to Inverness, then back down to Drumnadrochit. Where 'Rhona MacLeod' lives
alongside Loch Ness.
Anthony, travels on the roof-rack, using his cloak of invisibility to remain undetected. The trip is uneventful, the VW performing well, even in a snowy
blizzard, that soon clears near the famous Loch. It turns out that Rhona is a scientist. She has been studying the Loch for signs of the Monster of legend. Once reunited and settled in, Rohna tells that she has photographed the elusive monster, but nobody believes her. A famous debunker, 'Angus Campbell', discredits Rhona publicly. Calling her crazy, to even think such a legend could have any roots in reality.
Anthony, the Magic Dinobot, who is not supposed to be on this trip, spots the monster in the Loch through a mist, with his incredible AI sensors, telling Jimmy, secretly. Jimmy keeps this to himself. Marion and Tim support Rhona
in principle, but are somewhat skeptical. Although, they love the idea of the legend, having been brought up on the story. Then Marion realised that
Anthony has been a passenger, and scolds Jimmy. Then forgives him, when Jimmy reveals that the dinobot has seen the monster.
Tim does not believe the dinobot, but when out on the banks of the Loch, in the mist, the monster reveals itself to Antony, attempting to communicate with the
AI robot, and they kind of speak to each other, the dinobot deciphering the
monsters grunts and songs. Marion, Tim and Jimmy see this, and are spellbound, but know nobody will believe them. So, agree to keep it a secret.
Then, an investigative reporter,
Charley
Temple, visits to report on the sighting, for Jill
Bird, at the BBC World News. There is enough evidence to keep the legend alive, and Charley, a fan of Jimmy from when he won a coding prize for his work on
AI, tends to believe him and Rhona, keeping the legend alive. Charley spots the dinobot when creeping around at night, but decides to keep this to herself, to protect Jimmy and Rhona. Then, Angus Campbell's boat is found out on the Loch, with claw marks, and
harpoons onboard, but no Angus. His body is never found. This is reported on by Jill Bird at the BBC and it goes viral, the mystery remaining a mystery. The family return home safely, vowing to keep their encounter with the monster a secret.
BOXING
DAY
Jimmy Watson and the Magic Dinobot: The Boxing Day Delivery
INT. JIMMY’S WORKSHOP - BOXING DAY MORNING
The workshop is freezing, but Jimmy doesn't care. He’s wrapped in three layers of wool, staring at ANTHONY. The giant robot ant is currently "invisible"—or rather, its active-camouflage panels (a trick Anthony "learned" from a classified DARPA server overnight) are mimicking the cluttered shelves behind him.
JIMMY (Whispering) Anthony, you can turn the cloak off now. Dad’s gone to the village to get the papers.
With a soft hum like a purring cat, the air seems to ripple. The metallic, iridescent blue and black of the Dinobot’s armor plates fade back into view. Anthony’s multi-faceted eyes glow a soft, intelligent amber.
ANTHONY (In his calm, deep resonance) Scanning... Area clear, Jimmy. I have been analyzing the village map. According to the Herstmonceux Community Board, Mrs. Croft’s roof has been damaged by the weight of the snow. She is... "not having a very Merry Christmas."
JIMMY (Sighing) Mrs. Croft. She’s the one who always complains about my hammering. But... it is Christmas. And she’s quite old, isn't she?
ANTHONY Calculated age: 84 years. Probability of her fixing the roof herself: 0.02%. Jimmy, I have a "Boxing Day" protocol in my database. It involves "Goodwill to all."
JIMMY (Grinning) A secret mission! We’ll need the sled and the heavy-duty epoxy resin. But how do we get you there without the whole village seeing a six-foot ant walking down the High Street?
ANTHONY (Lifts a powerful hydraulic limb) I believe my "Stealth Mode" is more than sufficient. Plus, Jimmy, the snow is very deep. If I stay in the shadows of the hedgerows, I am merely... a very large, moving drift.
EXT. THE LANES OF HERSTMONCEUX - MOMENTS LATER
The village is a winter wonderland. Jimmy trundles along the lane, pulling a wooden sled loaded with tools. To any observer, he’s just a boy going to play in the snow.
But beside him, the air shimmers. Every few seconds, six-inch-deep footprints appear in the snow, seemingly out of nowhere.
JIMMY (Hissing) Watch your step, Anthony! You’re making too much noise!
ANTHONY (A ripple in the air next to Jimmy’s ear) I am weighing three hundred kilograms, Jimmy. Gravity is not a "stealth" setting.
They reach Mrs. Croft’s cottage. A heavy branch has fallen, punching a hole in the porch roof. Inside, through the frosted window, they can see the elderly woman huddled by a tiny electric fire.
JIMMY Okay, Anthony. Quick and quiet. Use your pincers to lift the branch. I’ll patch the hole with the carbon-fibre sheets.
The "invisible" force moves. The heavy oak branch suddenly rises into the air, as if lifted by a ghost. Anthony’s powerful servos whine almost inaudibly as he tosses the branch silently into the woodpile.
Jimmy scrambles up a ladder (which seems to be held steady by an invisible hand). Within minutes, he’s applied the high-tech patch. It’s a perfect, waterproof seal—stronger than the original wood.
JIMMY (Whispering) Done! Let’s get out of here before—
Suddenly, the front door creaks open. Mrs. Croft steps out, wrapped in a thick shawl. She looks up at the roof, then at the branch neatly stacked on her woodpile. Finally, she looks at Jimmy, who is standing there holding a roll of tape, looking guilty.
MRS. CROFT (Squinting) James Watson? Did you do this?
JIMMY (Gulping) Er... Happy Boxing Day, Mrs. Croft?
MRS. CROFT (Looking at the "empty" space beside Jimmy, where a sudden gust of wind seems to be swirling the snow into the shape of... a giant ant?) I thought I heard a... a giant grasshopper.
ANTHONY (A tiny, synthesized "chirp" sounds from the air)
MRS. CROFT (A rare, thin smile appearing) Well. It seems Santa left his best helper in Sussex this year. Thank you, young man. And thank your... "friend" as well.
As she heads back inside, she leaves a small plate of mince pies on the porch.
JIMMY (Turning to the shimmering air) Did she just... see you?
ANTHONY (Fading back into view, his amber eyes twinkling) Data suggests that some humans, particularly the elderly and the very young, have a higher "Magic Detection Threshold." Also, Jimmy... I believe I would like a mince pie. Can my AI process sugar?
JIMMY (Laughing, handing him a pie) I don’t know, Anthony. But for a Magic Dinobot? I think anything is possible.
ABOUT
JIMMY
Who
hasn't dreamed of having a special friend as a child - of making something
extraordinary. Believing your parents would not approve. And, you'd be
sent to the naughty step, or banished from the dinner table, with just
sandwiches, instead of a roast dinner feast. And yet, that thought would
not go away. Better to keep such ambitions to yourself. Mum and Dad would
not understand anyway.
Jimmy
Watson is just an ordinary boy. He attends an ordinary
school. He is a
loner with just a few friends, and quite a few enemies. He often wanders
off into a world of his own in classes, not listening to his teachers
fully, on those occasions. Although he truly admires his science master,
and loves physics and maths lessons. And especially metalwork, when he
gets to make things in steel and other exotic materials. Learning all
about cutting, joining and even hardening methods. Another world of
wonder.
Jimmy's
special talent is programming. He was taught that at school quite early
on. He was always in demand in teams for robot competitions. The only time
he was popular at school. With his programming, and provided the robot was
sturdy enough, his team would nearly always win.
Jimmy
would read books on robotics from cover to cover. Sometimes, under the
covers by torchlight. In the town library, he would always check out for
any new books on animatronics, and mechatronics. His favorite subjects.
Then
one day in the covers of a robotics magazine, Jimmy saw a kit for a
hexapod, designed for developers of artificial intelligence.
