ANGUS
CAMPBELL'S AMBITION
The air inside The Kelpie’s Bridle was thick with the scent of peat smoke, spilled ale, and the heavy weight of secrets.
Hamish
MacGregor, a man who looked as though he had been carved from the very Highlands themselves, polished a glass with a rhythmic, mesmerizing slow-motion.
Charley Temple leaned against the bar, her lace top catching the flickering amber light of the hearth. She was playing a dangerous game of "casual seeker," but Hamish’s eyes—deep and ancient—suggested he knew exactly what she was hunting for.
"So, Hamish," Charley said, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial hum. "In all your years on the water... have you ever seen something that couldn't be explained? A ripple where there was no wind? A shadow where there should be light?"
Hamish paused his polishing. The jovial giant didn't answer immediately. A strange, silent understanding passed between them—a spark of recognition. Charley felt it in her bones; she was a "Keeper" of secrets, and so was he. He didn't need to say the words. He was a guardian of the deep.
"The Loch has a long memory, lass," Hamish whispered, his voice like grinding stones. "And it doesna’ like being disturbed."
The heavy oak door groaned open, admitting a gust of freezing mist and a man who smelled of salt and obsession.
"Speak of the devil," Hamish muttered, his jaw tightening.
Angus Campbell marched to the bar, his tweed jacket frayed at the elbows and his face already blooming into a vibrant crimson. He slammed a coin onto the wood. "Whisky. Neat. And keep 'em coming."
Charley didn't miss a beat. She shifted on her stool, flashing a smile that could melt a glacier. "Good evening to you, sir. I’m Charley."
Angus paused, his glass halfway to his lips. He took in the "window dressing" of her lace top and the keen interest in her eyes. The bait was set.
"Aye, lassie," he grunted, puffing out his chest. "Angus is the name."
"Not the famous Angus Campbell? The preeminent expert on the Loch Ness Mystery?"
"One and the same, my bonny lassie," Angus preened, his ego swelling faster than his blood pressure.
"What’s the plan, Angus? Any breaking news for a curious admirer?"
Angus glanced at Hamish, then back to Charley. The second whisky had loosened the bolts on his common sense. "The plan," he hissed, leaning in close, "is to expose the hoax. Once and for all. I’ve got sonar-disruptors that’ll scream through the silt and
harpoons forged for more than just
salmon."
Charley’s heart did a slow roll in her chest. "A noble mission. But... what if there is a creature out there? Something ancient?"
"Then I’ll capture it," Angus growled, a wild glint in his eye. "Or I’ll kill it in the process. Either way, the world will finally know my name. The science? Bah! That
Professor down at the Loch has found nothing but mud and weeds. I’m going to clear the water."
"The ravings of lunatics," he added, dismissively waving a hand at the very idea of a living legend.
As Angus stumbled back out into the night to begin arming his vessel, Hamish leaned over the bar, his expression grim. "Be careful, lassie. That man means business. He’s a danger to the community, and to himself. Mark my words."
The night was bone-chilling as Charley raced toward The Kelpie’s Rest. She hammered on the door, the sound echoing across the silent moor.
The door creaked open to reveal Rhona, her hair wrapped in a silk scarf, looking thoroughly unimpressed by the midnight visitor. Behind her, Jimmy, Marion, and Tim peered out like startled owls.
"Sorry about the hour, Professor," Charley panted, her breath misting in the air. "But you need to know. Angus is going out tonight. He’s armed to the teeth. He means to 'clear' the
Loch."
The annoyance vanished from Rhona’s face, replaced by a sharp, academic fire. "Come in, dear! Don't stand there catching your death."
"What does he mean, 'clear the Loch'?" Jimmy asked, his eyes wide.
Charley
looked at the boy, then at the backpack where the Magic Dinobot sat, its mechanical eyes glowing with a faint, rhythmic blue light.
"It means, Jimmy, that Nessie needs your help," Charley said solemnly. "The
Dinobot is the only one who can talk to her. We have to warn her before Angus starts his engines. But there’s a catch—we have to do it without being spotted. If Angus sees us, or the authorities catch us, the secret is out forever."
Jimmy looked at the Dinobot. The small metallic creature tilted its head, a series of clicks and whirs emanating from its chest. It was time for a midnight rescue.

PLOT
OUTLINE:
Having
enjoyed a wicked Christmas in Herstmonceux, Jimmy's mum, Marion and dad,
Tim, decide to take a Scottish vacation to visit Marion's cousin, near Loch Ness. A road trip in her trusty
Volkswagen Kombi Camper
van. They set off just after Boxing Day, to arrive before New Year's Eve, for a reunion, having fitted winter tyres and installed a heater in the VW. They make it up the M1 to Edinburgh, and M90 to Inverness, then back down to Drumnadrochit. Where 'Rhona MacLeod' lives
alongside Loch Ness.
Anthony, travels on the roof-rack, using his cloak of invisibility to remain undetected. The trip is uneventful, the VW performing well, even in a snowy
blizzard, that soon clears near the famous Loch. It turns out that Rhona is a scientist. She has been studying the Loch for signs of the Monster of legend. Once reunited and settled in, Rohna tells that she has photographed the elusive monster, but nobody believes her. A famous debunker, 'Angus Campbell', discredits Rhona publicly. Calling her crazy, to even think such a legend could have any roots in reality.
Anthony, the Magic Dinobot, who is not supposed to be on this trip, spots the monster in the Loch through a mist, with his incredible AI sensors, telling Jimmy, secretly. Jimmy keeps this to himself. Marion and Tim support Rhona
in principle, but are somewhat skeptical. Although, they love the idea of the legend, having been brought up on the story. Then Marion realised that
Anthony has been a passenger, and scolds Jimmy. Then forgives him, when Jimmy reveals that the dinobot has seen the monster.
Tim does not believe the dinobot, but when out on the banks of the Loch, in the mist, the monster reveals itself to Antony, attempting to communicate with the
AI robot, and they kind of speak to each other, the dinobot deciphering the
monsters grunts and songs. Marion, Tim and Jimmy see this, and are spellbound, but know nobody will believe them. So, agree to keep it a secret.
Then, an investigative reporter,
Charley
Temple, visits to report on the sighting, for Jill
Bird, at the BBC World News. There is enough evidence to keep the legend alive, and Charley, a fan of Jimmy from when he won a coding prize for his work on
AI, tends to believe him and Rhona, keeping the legend alive. Charley spots the dinobot when creeping around at night, but decides to keep this to herself, to protect Jimmy and Rhona. Then, Angus Campbell's boat is found out on the Loch, with claw marks, and
harpoons onboard, but no Angus. His body is never found. This is reported on by Jill Bird at the BBC and it goes viral, the mystery remaining a mystery. The family return home safely, vowing to keep their encounter with the monster a secret.
